Radiofrequency surgery

What is radiofrequency surgery?
Radiofrequency surgery is a method used to remove various skin lesions without a scalpel. This type of procedure does not require downtime. As the machinery possesses the ability to cut and coagulate soft tissues simultaneously, side effects and risk associated with procedures are greatly reduced.

When is radiofrequency surgery used?
It is an ideal treatment method for removal of benign skin growths as skin tags, warts, genital warts, seborrheic keratoses, moles, cherry haemangiomas, angiomas, telangiectasias, molluscum contagiosum, solar keratoses, granuloma pyogenicum, cysts, epidermoid cysts, syringomas (benign tumors of the sweat glands), milia, xanthelasma ( yellowish deposits on the eyelids).

How is it performed?
First the area is cleaned with sterile saline solution and injected a small amount of local anesthetic into the area surrounding the skin growth to minimize a procedure-related pain. The radiofrequency hand piece is applied to strategically remove layers of the growth. This process is repeated until complete removal is accomplished.

How long does a treatment take?
Several seconds to a minute for every skin growth.

How may treatments are needed for full removal?
One.

Is anesthesia needed?
In most cases an anesthetic is injected underneath the skin growth. Sometimes an anesthetic cream or sprey are used prior to removal with radiofrequency.

Is there any downtime associated with radiofrequency surgery?
There is rarely any downtime associated with this type of procedure. Because the skin growth removal equipment cauterizes tissue throughout the procedure, there is very little bleeding, swelling, or side effects. Some patients may chose to take an OTC pain reliever as a precautionary measure depending on the amount of activity they anticipate doing post procedure.
You may resume your daily activities immediatley after radiofrequency removal of a skin growth.
